The Department of Art at Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure-track, nine-month faculty position in early Mediterranean Art History at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2009. Ph.D. required. Preferred area/s of expertise: Ancient (Egypt, Mesopotamia), Classical (Greece, Rome), Medieval, Islamic, or Renaissance. Applicants should be able to teach from a broad regional and chronological perspective. Secondary areas may include Asian art, art theory and criticism, museum studies, or craft history. Faculty in Art History teach area/s of specialization, art history surveys, art appreciation and assist in developing a comprehensive art history curriculum within a department of art. Applicant should have a strong commitment to teaching. Significant involvement in research and service responsibilities, including student advisement, is expected. Possible instruction off-campus.
The Department of Art offers five undergraduate degrees (BFA Studio Art, BFA Graphic Design, BS Art Education, BS Art Management, and BA Art History) and is NASAD-accredited.
