Fixed-Term Fellowhip by Special Election in Ancient History,
Wadham College in association with the Faculty of Classics,
University of Oxford.
Applications are invited for the post of Fellow by Special Election in Ancient History at Wadham College. This is a full-time, fixed-term (non-renewable) appointment from 1 October 2013 until 30 September 2015. The post is funded by the Leverhulme Trust and Wadham College and is designed to support the teaching and research career of an early career scholar whilst Dr Peter Thonemann takes a period of leave associated with a Philip Leverhulme Prize. The post-holder will be expected to provide 8 hours per week of tutorials at Wadham College and up to 16 hours of lectures for the Faculty of Classics in the area of Ancient History; s/he will also be expected to carry out the normal duties of a College Tutor and to play part in Faculty and College administration and examining. The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the research profile of the College and the Faculty by engaging in independent, high-level research and scholarship in the field of Ancient History. Candidates are expected to have been awarded a doctorate in the field of Greek and/or Roman history (at latest by 31 July 2013); they should be able to demonstrate their ability to tutor and to teach undergraduate students at the highest level, and they should have a record of, or clear potential for, high-level peer-reviewed publication. Candidates should also show evidence of knowledge of Greek and Latin sufficient to teach undergraduate reading classes.
The salary offered is £27,047, rising to £27,854 in the second year of the post.
