News: Princeton University Library Manuscript Checklist Online

Some eight years, the Index of Christian Art received generous funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to digitize and catalogue all miniatures in western medieval and Renaissance manuscripts owned by the Princeton University Library, chiefly located in the Manuscripts Division, Department of Rare Books and Special Collections.

The digital images and accompanying descriptions have been available on the Index website for a number of years and also reside in ArtStor. The Mellon Foundation grant also allowed considerable progress to be made toward the publication of a two-volume catalogue, Medieval and Renaissance Manuscripts in the Princeton University Library, by Don C. Skemer, Curator of Manuscripts which was recently published.

While the catalogue includes nearly 400 color images, the Library has long wanted all of the images to be available for research and reference purposes. The good news is that a checklist of these works is now online, linking to the images taken by the Index of Christian Art. They are not high-resolution images, but they are all there and look great!
