Closing date for proposals: 2nd September 2013
Call for Papers: The Venerable Bede I and II,
Bede at The International Congress on Medieval Studies,
Kalamazoo (May 8-11, 2014).
Keeping with the longstanding tradition of two Congress sessions dedicated to the Venerable Bede (c. 673-735), the organizers seek submissions for the 2014 panels. Recent Congress strands have focused upon Bede’s relationships with others (‘Friends and Enemies’, 2012), and the factors that shaped the composition and reception of Bede’s writings (‘Intellectual Landscapes’, 2013), but the session titles for 2014 are intentionally broad. As well as attracting submissions from regular participants, it is hoped that this thematic openness will attract papers from scholars who will be involved in the Bede sessions for the very first time. The broad titles are also designed to attract researchers who do not necessarily work on Bede per se, but who are working on parallel or contextual material which would be of interest to an audience of Bede scholars. The 2014 sessions will signal new developments in Bede scholarship and showcase new directions in the study of Bede and his oeuvre from a variety of disciplinary and methodological perspectives. Submissions are sought on any aspect of Bede’s life, times, intellectual inheritance, writings, or legacy. Please send a title and short abstract to Peter Darby (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you are interested in participating.
