Irish Fisheries, Food Products and Exports: A Historical Perspective,
Discovery Programme & the Agricultural History Society of Ireland and the Irish Environmental History Network,

The conference is organised by the Discovery Programme, in association with the Agricultural History Society of Ireland and the Irish Environmental History Network. The conference will begin at 9.45am with registration and coffee. Attendance is free.

Speakers are Liam Downey (UCD/Maynooth) and Ingelise Stuijts (Discovery Programme), who will speak on “Went Reconsidered: A Historical Perspective on Irish Fisheries”, Kieran Hickey(NUI Galway), who will speak on “Evidence of the Export of Marine and River Fish and Other Marine Life from Ireland to Bristol, UK, in the 16th Century”, Stephen Davis (UCD), who will speak on “The Drogheda Boat and the Fishing, Curing and Preserving of Herring”, Regina Sexton (UCC), who will speak on”Fish in Literature and Recipes from 1650 Onwards”, Sylvester O’Muiri (Independent), who will speak on “South Coast Fisheries, 1890-1970”, and Ciara Breathnach (University of Limerick), who will speak on “The Congested Districts Boards and the West of Ireland Fisheries in the Late 19th/Early 20th Century: Poverty and Development”. The conference will also feature the AGM of the Agricultural History Society of Ireland.
