The School of Humanities is seeking to appoint an academic staff member in Classics & Ancient History.
Applicants will have a strong research and publication profile (commensurate with career stage) in ancient history, focussing on the ancient Greek, Hellenistic or Roman worlds. They will have experience of teaching at University level, a desire to develop innovative units in ancient history that enhance existing provision within the School, and a demonstrated ability and willingness to teach classical languages to undergraduate and postgraduate students. As UNE has a large distance education cohort, experience with online or blended modes of teaching and learning is desirable.Classics is a foundation discipline of the University of New England, and the institution has a long and proud tradition of teaching and research in Classical languages and literature, Greek and Roman history, and Late Antiquity, alongside an emerging focus on Egyptian and Near Eastern History. The School of Humanities also houses the Museum of Antiquities, the only regional ancient history and archaeology museum in Australia. It has extensive holdings which underpin teaching in Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Near Eastern and Archaeology offerings, as well as ethnographic material from Australasia, South East Asia, the Pacific region, Mesoamerica and Africa. Academic staff in the School of Humanities teach and research across eight disciplines, including Archaeology, Classics & Ancient History, History, Indigenous Studies, Philosophy, Political & International Studies, Peace Studies and Studies in Religion.Armidale, a vibrant university city recognised as a centre of culture, is well served with art, music, theatre, sport and public and private education.
