Professor – £55,375 to £59,329 per annum
The Department of History within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is seeking to appoint a senior colleague to complement its existing research strengths and teaching provision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.  The department’s range is rich and diverse, including Classical to Modern British and European History and Modern North American, North East Asian, and Colonial/ Postcolonial History. We are particularly keen to appoint in the areas of either Early Medieval/Late Antique, Early Modern History or Modern History.  As a senior colleague, you will be expected to demonstrate academic leadership, and to contribute to the administration of the Department and its programmes.  The post will require some evening teaching.The Department is highly successful and growing. All staff undertake excellent teaching (100% approval, NSS 2011 & 2013) and research (55% internationally outstanding & excellent in RAE 2008).As our ideal candidate, you will have a first degree and doctorate in History, a track record of internationally excellent REF-worthy publications, research supervision, and research income generation in line with the University’s readership criteria, and advanced plans for publications and other contributions for the Research Excellence Framework 2020. Interaction with the wider public and capacity to generate Impact will be added advantages.
You will regularly participate and contribute to national and international conferences, seminars and scholarly gatherings in the research discipline area and undertake external activities appropriate to a leading researcher in the discipline e.g. journal editorship, conference organisation. You will be experienced in teaching in higher education. The capacity to teach a range of history and historical methodology is essential. An interest in historical pedagogy, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively are also essential.
