Stipendiary Lectureship in History,
Exeter College proposes to appoint, if there is a suitable candidate, a Stipendiary Lecturer in History. This is a fixed-term role, tenable from 1 January 2015 until 30 June 2015, and the postholder will teach History to undergraduates.
The Lecturer will be required to undertake tutorial or class teaching of undergraduates of the College (or, by exchange, undergraduates of other Colleges) up to a maximum of 8 ‘weighted’ hours per week averaged over the two eight-week teaching Terms of the contract (Hilary and Trinity 2015). They will also be required to set and mark College examinations, and to participate in the running of History and its joint Schools within the College.
The Lecturer should be able to teach:
- General History III (1400–1650) for the Preliminary Examination; and
- Approaches to History for the Preliminary Examination (the Lecturer should be able to offer one or more strands of the paper and should state in their application which strands they could teach); and
- British History 1500-1700 for the Final Honour School; and
- One or more papers in General History for the Final Honour School; and
- Disciplines of History.
The ability to teach an Optional Subject for the Preliminary Examination would be an advantage.

Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK, and the appointment will be subject to provision of proof of the right to work in the UK before employment commences. The College is not able to sponsor an applicant for a Tier 2 visa for this post, since the post does not meet the minimum salary level stipulated by the Home Office for the sponsorship of a Tier 2 visa.
