Durham University.

The AHRC-funded Project, ‘Monks in Motion: a prosopographical study of the English and Welsh Benedictines in exile, 1553-1800’, based in the Department of Theology and Religion at Durham University, invites applications for a 21-month Postdoctoral Fellowship as part of the core research team.

The successful applicant will assist with data collection for the creation of a dynamic, searchable database of the membership and activities of English Benedictines from Mary I’s reign to 1800. This will involve work with primary sources at several archives, collecting the relevant information and inputting it ready for the creation of the database. Where necessary, it will also involve transcription work.  He/she will have responsibility for recording the public archives consulted and creating a calendar of these for publication on the project website. He/she will also have responsibility for all conference administration and will be expected to contribute accordingly to all project outputs, including publications and conferences. The post-holder will be directly responsible to the project Principal Investigator, but will be expected to work in close co-ordination with other members of the project team.

This is an opportunity for a first-rank early-career researcher who has either recently submitted his/her doctoral dissertation, or who has completed the equivalent of 3 years full-time research at dissertation stage and is now in the final write-up phase. The appointee will have energy and proven gifts as a scholar and will be a full member of the Department of Theology and Religion.

Please note that as this position is part-time (0.6fte) the actual salary will be pro rata to the full time salary shown.
