This volume contains 31 peer-reviewed papers selected from those presented at the 16th Viking congress held in Reykjavík and Reykholt in Iceland in August 2009. It lives up to the interdisciplinary challenge by covering a wide range of subjects, rooted in the past, but connecting to the present with a discussion of the role of Viking studies in education and their contribution to understanding the environmental issues of the present.
